Kejriwal Accuses Election Commission of ‘Shooting the Messenger’ as He Visits EC Office

Controversy with Kejriwal

Nowadays Kejriwal is under controversy for his statement on the Yamuna River. Arvind Kejriwal submitted his response to the Election Commission regarding his controversial remark on Yamuna water.

Reply to Election Commission

He replied to the Election Commission (EC) on his controversial “poison mixed” remark about the water quality in the Yamuna this Friday. A notice was issued to him by EC and in this notice, he requested an explanation for his statements by 11 am on Friday.

Arvind Kejriwal went to the EC office along with Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He handed over the letter, in which he mentioned that his comments were related to the high levels of ammonia contamination in raw water supplied to Delhi from Haryana.
Kejriwal explained that his earlier statements, which referenced the Yamuna being “poisoned,” the rising ammonia levels in the water, and he did not intend to suggest any other than an environmental crisis. He mentioned that the ammonia levels in the Yamuna water had reached alarming levels, peaking at 7 parts per million (ppm) in January, he mentioned his concern to public health.

Blame on Haryana CM

He mentioned that they are planning to engage Haryana CM for this resolution. He said that till date no resolution has been provided by the Haryana government on this contamination, After regressive attempts by Delhi and Punjab officials, he raised his concern to the Haryana government.
. He shared that this issue of contamination was also raised by Atishi on Jan 27 in a press conference. In his tweet also he mentioned the same issue and raised it as the Haryana Government’s failure to act.

The AAP chief mentioned that the Haryana government is trying to manufacture a crisis by not taking any action, thereby undermining the AAP government’s reputation ahead of elections. He asked for an investigation into the actions of Haryana’s chief minister, accusing him of intentionally exacerbating the situation for political gain.

‘Shooting the messenger’

Before going to the Election Commission’s office, Kejriwal told reporters that using the language of the second notice hints that the poll body has already decided its action.

He alleged that the poll body shot the messenger by targeting the AAP for raising its voice. He mentioned that a political conspiracy is going on to force Delhi people to face a water crisis by contaminating the water with poisonous ammonia to tarnish the image of the Aam Aadmi party in elections. He Congratulated the Delhi people and mentioned that the ammonia level in Yamuna water has decreased from 7ppm to 2.1ppm. The chief minister clarified he was planning to meet EC for the same.

He accused the EC and its Chief Election Commissioner of engaging in political maneuvering over his comments. He mentioned that the Yamuna water supplied from Haryana to Delhi contained high ammonia levels.

Notice By EC

Two notices were issued to Kejriwal by EC and asked for a response to his claim that the BJP government had intentionally contaminated the Yamuna water, attempting to commit a “genocide” in the city.

Kejriwal defended his actions on Friday, stating that he talked about an engineered water crisis designed to influence the elections. However, the EC still sent him notices.

Kejriwal, who is contesting from the Delhi seat, was asked to provide details about the engineers, locations, and methods used by the Delhi Jal Board staff to detect the “poison” by 11 am Friday, or the election Commission would take further action.
