Jay Shah Resign from BCCI Secretary Post.
On 12th January 2025, Devajit Saikia has been announced as the new BCCI
Secretary. He will now be replacing Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah who has served his term
of 5 years (2019-2024). Many people believe that a person who has a cricket
background like him will be better for the overall betterment of the BCCI.
Why did Jay Shah resign?
Jay Shah resigned from his post as the BCCI Secretary as he had gotten an offer to
become the ICC Chairman and he stated that he wanted to take on a new challenge.
This opened up the opportunity for Mr. Devajit Saikia to become the BCCI Secretary.
Along with the position of the Secretary, the position of treasurer also opened up
which was taken by Prabhtej Singh Bhatia.
Who is Devajit Saikia?
Devajit Saikia is a former first-class cricketer, a wicket-keeper, and a middle-order
batsman for the Indian cricket team. He is also an advocate by profession and started
his practice at the age of 28 in the district court of Guwahati and was also in the field of
cricket management for a long time as the secretary of the Assam Cricket Association
and also served as the Vice-President of the Guwahati Town Club.
Cricket Career:
Devajit Saikia began his cricket career in the year of 1984 when he represented his
state, Assam, in the Naydu trophy. In the years that followed, he built his name as a
well-known cricketer in Assam. One of the most significant moments in his career was
the ability to play in the Ranji trophy in 1989. It is also to note that during his state career,
he played with many famous cricketers like Sourav Ganguly and Ranjib Biswal.
Devajit Saikia retired from professional cricket at the age of 21 to focus on his academic
career.
Advocate by Profession:
Devajit Saikia became a professional advocate at the age of 28 and started his practice
in the Guwahati district court in Assam. He is now the serving advocate general of
Assam after getting that position in the year of 2017.

Considering both the posts of treasurer and secretary have been changed for the BCCI,
People are assuming that BCCI and the Indian cricket team will be going through a lot
of changes during this new era. Many people think that an ex-cricketer like Devajit
Saikia can bring new dimensions of growth and success that the cricket team India
