The DRI has arrested Tarun Raju, grandson of the owner of Atria Hotel in Bengaluru for his alleged role in the gold smuggling case involving actor Ranya Rao, sources said. His arrest comes after Rao was recently detained with gold worth Rs 12.56 crore.

taken into five-day custody by DRI for questioning grandson of the Atria Hotel owner Tarun Raju, has been arrested by the (DRI)Directorate of Revenue Intelligence from Bengaluru in connection with the gold smuggling case involving Kannada actress Ranya Rao, sources said.
His arrest comes just days after Rao was detained at the Kempegowda International Airport with gold bars worth Rs 12.56 crore.
Two days ago, while Ranya was already in custody, the DRI detained Tarun Raju and questioned him. At one point, both the suspects were confronted face to face as the officers attempted to unearth the full extent of their involvement.
Ranya Rao who is the stepdaughter of Director General of Police Ramachandra Rao, has reportedly made a partial confession.
She admitted that the officers recovered 17 gold bars from her possession and revealed her detailed travel to Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Europe, and the United States.
Sources say she traveled to Dubai around 30 times last year, including four trips within 15 days, and allegedly smuggled gold each time.
As per Statement, Ranya requested that the investigation should be kept private and she assured to do full cooperation with the authorities.
The DRI searches at her residence, resulting in the seizure of gold jewellery which is of worth Rs 2.06 crore and Indian currency worth Rs 2.67 crore.
I was verbally abused
On Monday, during the court hearing, Ranya Rao accused the DRI officials of “verbally abusing” her whenever she stopped asking questions. On the other hand, the investigating officer (IO) informed the judge that Ranya was not subjected to any kind of harassment by the DRI officials.

The IO further alleged that she did not respond even when shown evidence and asked specific questions. interrogation officer says she is only answering the questions that her lawyer asked to answer.
