Bhagwant Maan on Crime in Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant  Mann reiterated the state government’s firm commitment to curb crime in the state and said that in any area where a major incident occurs, the responsibility of the concerned police officer of that area will be fixed.

During a meeting with the Police Commissioners and District Police Chiefs, he said that there should be effective policing to curb crime in the state. He said that the Punjab Police is one of the best forces in the country and its glorious tradition should be maintained at all costs to protect the unity, integrity, and sovereignty of the country. People should get justice and the bonds of communal harmony, peace, and brotherhood should be kept strong in the state.

 

Major Police Reform in Punjab

He said that the government will implement major police reforms so that the people can get the benefit of it. The government has already emphasized the modernization of the police in the state. He said that those involved in illegal activities should be dealt with strictly and those involved in this crime should not be spared. Police officers should lay more emphasis on gathering intelligence and providing justice to the common man. The war against drugs should be turned into a people’s movement and Panchayats should be encouraged for this purpose.

 

Concern about Drug

He said that the supply line of drugs in the state should be broken more strictly. A policy of no tolerance should be adopted against the menace of drugs and no one involved in this heinous crime should be spared. He said that he would monitor the action against drugs daily.

He said that the properties of drug smugglers should be confiscated. The big fish involved in this big crime should be thrown behind bars.

Rule against Gangsters

He said that the government is firmly committed to eradicating organized crime and strict action should be taken against gangsters. No one should be allowed to take the law into their own hands and exemplary action should be taken against such people. He also asked the officials to prepare a complete blueprint to stop petty crimes.

He said that the government is committed to eradicating corruption in the state and even the corruption spread in the police system needs to be strictly stopped. The black sheep present in the police force should be identified and strict action should be taken against them.

Who was present in the Meeting

He asked the officials to conduct surprise inspections in their respective jurisdictions. On this occasion, DGP Gaurav Yadav, Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha, Home Secretary Gurkirat Iqbal Singh, and others were present.
