Budget 2025 and Bihar

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the general budget in the Lok Sabha on Saturday. In this budget, Modi Played a masterstroke by giving special attention to the electoral state of Bihar because in Bihar there are elections after nine months.

Makahana Board Establishment

The Finance Minister announced the establishment of the Makhana Board in Bihar while announcing the budget for 2025. The rumors are that the Modi government is preparing for the Bihar assembly elections, and this is beginning. It seems that the NDA can benefit from this in the coming time.

Bihar is a big market for Makhana.

Let us tell you that Bihar is the largest producer of Makhana in the country. Most of the Makhana cultivation takes place in the riverine areas of Mithila and Seemanchal regions. Makhana reaches the market after the hard work of the Mallah community.

Mallah Community and Bihar Politics

There are about two dozen sub-castes in the Mallah community in Bihar and according to an estimate, the population of Mallahs in the state is between 7 to 10 percent. Mallah voters have tremendous influence in many areas of North Bihar including Mithila (Madhubani, Darbhanga), Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, and Khagaria.

There are about 70 assembly seats in this region. The special thing is that most of the areas producing Makhana in Bihar are the stronghold of NDA and are represented by BJP and JD-U MPs. This is a clear indication that the announcement of setting up the Makhana Board in the state will strengthen the vote bank of NDA in the upcoming assembly elections in Mithila and Seemanchal regions.

Political experts say that in North Bihar, where the number of rivers is high, this vote bank decides the victory or defeat. VIP supremo Mukesh Sahni, famous as the ‘Son of Mallah’, is their big leader, who is currently with the Grand Alliance. This was a matter of great concern for the NDA. Before the elections, the Modi government made a big move by announcing the formation of the Makhana Board. It is being said that the formation of the Makhana Board will directly affect their population. How much benefit NDA will get from this in the elections, will be known only when the BJP under the leadership of Nitish Kumar hits the ground for the assembly elections.

The current Ruling party in Bihar

Currently, Bihar is ruled by an alliance of NDA  and JDU. Nitish Kumar is the current CM in Bihar. NDA is doing its best to be in power so played this masterstroke.
