Chandigarh News: 2 Arrested for Opening Fire on Police in Sector 38

The Chandigarh police’s District Crime Cell (DCC) has apprehended two individuals for opening fire on police personnel in Sector 38 on January 23.

 A person in an unidentified vehicle shot at two cops in Chandigarh’s Sector 38 on Thursday evening and then fled the scene. The incident caused no reported injuries.

 

Cops filed a case and started looking for the suspects

Sources say the event happened around 7 pm when Pradeep Kumar, a cop from the Sector 39 station was on duty in Sector 38’s residential area. The officer motioned for a white car to halt suspecting something was off. The car’s occupants ignored this signal. The troublemakers stopped the vehicle a short distance from the officer, and one person got out.

The police recovered a Fronx car, a 32-bore pistol used in the crime, from the duo and also recovered 15.20 gm of heroin. Sources say the accused were arrested while delivering heroin in the area. “In the initial interrogation, the accused confessed to supplying drugs in Chandigarh, Punjab, Jammu, Haryana, and Delhi-NCR area. Deepak even revealed he had earlier fired at the STF team of Punjab Police in Ludhiana,” said the police.

On January 23, Senior Constable Pardeep had signaled a car to stop at a naka from Sector 39 police station, but the driver Deepak sped off. However, The car stopped a little away from there, and Rishab got down. The accused, armed with pistols, proceeded to hurl abuses at the policemen. One member of the group opened fire at the policemen, while Constable Deep Kumar retaliated by firing in the air. The unidentified men fled in their vehicle, threatening him with death.

 

Not long after, a senior constable named Deep from the District Crime Cell was out on patrol in the area and came on the scene, chasing Deepak. In retaliation, Deepak fired upon the police and fled with Rishab.

On Jan 26, the District Crime Cell team from Sector 24 caught two suspects near Ziri Mandi Chowk Sector 39. The police identified them as Deepak Kumar Verma also known as Deepu, and Rishab Sharma also known as Rishu. Both men live in Ludhiana. The police said, “When we first questioned them, they admitted to selling drugs in Chandigarh, Punjab, Jammu, Haryana, and the NCR Delhi area. Deepu also told us he shot at the STF team (Punjab Police) in Ludhiana. He has 14 cases filed against him in different states.”
