The ChatGPT controversy in India only seems to be growing as several sources suggest that the two business giants of India, Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani seem to have joined hands together to sue Open AI, the parent company of ChatGPT.To learn more about this controversy, read the article below.
What is the ChatGPT controversy?
The controversy with Open AI does not seem to end this time. First, they faced various copyright lawsuits from Indian media companies stating that Open AI used their content without their permission. Now, Sam Altman, the CEO of Open AI has landed himself in even more trouble by stating that their competitor, Deepseek has trained their AI by using some of ChatGPT’s products and services.
This claim by Sam Altman was a really bold claim considering that Open AI is yet to find any proof of Deepseek copying them. These comments by Sam Altman have further ignited the fire as now ChatGPT will be around the center of controversy for a bit longer than they expected.
Adani,Ambani against Open AI:
Leading the Copyright case are the two multi-billionaires, Mukesh Ambani (Owner of Network 18) and Gautam Adani (Owner of NDTV network). Following them in this case are other members of DNPA (Digital News Publishers Association) who are also against ChatGPT and Open AI.
This case entirely revolves around various media outlets claiming that ChatGPT has willingly used its Copyrighted content to train its Generative AI bots like ChatGPT.
These brands are also claiming that OpenAI using their content is therefore diverting their source of income and they are not even paying them nor giving them any credit for using their content. Thus, they claim that this act poses a severe danger to the media industry in a large country like India.
One more reason behind this issue can traced back on behalf of OpenAI as the multi-billion company already had some deals with media outlets like Time Magazine and Le Monde which was not the case when OpenAI came to India. According to some, this also means that OpenAI has disrespected the Indian Media Industry.
Big Issue:
The same issues are also being raised for many other AI companies and thus, this controversy has reached a global level and has led to various world-famous media brands like the New York Times to join in the action and sue AI-based companies.
What can be the implications of this Controversy?
While no action has yet been taken against OpenAI as of now, but if proven guilty, it can have various severe causes against the company evaluated at 6 billion. Either they would have to pay the compensation to Indian media outlets for using their content or they might even have to leave India.
Amid all this chaos, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI has stated that he will be visiting India soon. The reason for his visit has not been announced yet but many believe that it might be related to the controversy going on.
