Delhi Election Controversy: Kejriwal’s Attack on Police, What Happened in EC Meeting?

Delhi Polls 2025: Just a day before the Delhi Assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister Atishi and MP Raghav Chadha reached the Election Commission on Tuesday evening. There they lodged several complaints and demanded fair elections.

Met the Election Commission, got assurance of fairness

Talking to the media, Kejriwal said, “Usually the Election Commission does not meet anyone during the silent period, but we are grateful for giving us time on short notice.” He alleged that incidents of violence are taking place in Delhi and hooliganism is being done by misusing the police. He also feared that in some areas voters may be intimidated and prevented from voting.

Kejriwal further said, “We told the Election Commission that due to the collusion of BJP and police, people are in panic in some places and are not able to come out of their homes. The Commission has assured us of fair elections.”

Fear of intimidation of voters

AAP leaders told the commission that voters could be intimidated on a large scale. They alleged that some people could be prevented from voting by paying money, threatening or applying ink. On this, the Election Commission assured to take strict action for fair elections.

ECI gave public information

After meeting the AAP delegation, the Election Commission gave information through a post on the social media platform ‘X’. The post said, “All election officials should work impartially and any partisan activity will not be tolerated.” The Election Commission directed the officials to keep strict vigil in border areas and other sensitive areas.

The Commission also encouraged the public, candidates and parties to use the ‘cVigil’ app and report any kind of violation of the election code of conduct.

Strong statement of ECI

Earlier, the Election Commission had also reacted to the comments being made by Kejriwal and Atishi on the electoral process. The Commission said that it will not be affected by these allegations and is working with a team of more than 1.5 lakh officers to ensure fair elections.

The Election Commission said, “We are working under the legal framework and strong process so that free and fair elections can be conducted.”

Political excitement is high regarding the Delhi elections. Aam Aadmi Party has raised questions on fairness, while the Election Commission has assured to conduct the elections with complete fairness. Now it remains to be seen what the situation is on the day of voting and to what extent the Commission is able to ensure fair elections.
