Day 3-Deva Box Office Collection: Hindi Debut by Malayalam Director Roshan Andrews, featuring Shahid Kapoor and Pooja Hegde

The film garnered a great collection on its third day

New Delhi: Box Office Collection-Across All Languages for Deva-Three-Days Report: Deva, which stars Shahid Kapoor and Pooja Hegde, was released on January 31. Some intense debates had surrounded the film over a reasonable period about whether a cop played by Shahid entered the underworld.

The third day of (February 1) was good for the collections, which translates to Rs 20 crores on the first weekend. According to BoxOfficeIndia, a box office tracker, Deva made Rs 7.15 crore on its third day of release.

The opening day took almost Rs 5.5 crore; the second day was Rs 6.4 crore. Thus, the total collection of Deva stood at Rs 19.05 crore as of now for the Indian box office, still slowing down before the Global count of Rs 30 crore.

Deva is a Hindi remake of Mumbai Police

For the unversed, Deva in Malayalam means devil/Mumbai Police-a 2013 Crime-Thriller movie directed by Roshan Andrews and starring Prithviraj Sukumaran; however, the director dealt with it a bit differently when it came to the climax and other important details.

Shahid plays ACP Dev Ambre, who goes through amnesia while solving his best friend’s murder. Pooja is cast as Diya Sathaye, a journalist in love with him. There are moving performances by Kubra Sait and Pavail Gulati.

Shahid’s film has surpassed the opening weekend grosses of Fateh and Emergency

With these three days of total collections, Shahid’s project now surpassed the opening weekend collection of Fateh and Emergency. The occupancy rate for Sunday stood at 15.38 percent for the Deva and was mainly concentrated in the evening shows; Chennai had 41.5 percent for 65 shows, Bengaluru had 20.25 percent for 343 shows, while Deva in Mumbai closed at 18.75 percent based on 867 shows; Delhi NCR had 11.5 percent based on 1310 shows occupancy. So far, Deva has done successfully with over 5000 shows all over India.

There are some drawbacks to the movie

There are, however, a few flaws with the film. There is a sniper shot, and it does seem to be a bit ridiculous; there are several other incongruities and lapses in the storyline. There’s still a bit more to cover (but not too much). And while it is mentioned a few times, Dev’s early issue of wanting to be a policeman to catch his violent father is never properly elaborated upon. Even though it’s all very softly paced, it keeps you engrossed and entertained. But even with those shortcomings, it is full of raw charm, and passion, and has a nice execution, so it’s worth a watch.
