Indo-Pak Peace Efforts Thrashed by PM Modi
Entwinement of India in Deception Though for Peace Efforts
PM Modi on Lex Fridman’s podcast spoke of how several peaceful attempts were made by India to establish a relationship with Pakistan. Each of these attempts always met with hostility and betrayal. He referred to his very first step of big diplomacy in 2014, the invitation to none other than Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan to the swearing-in ceremony. This was a considerable step since it was opened toward bringing Pakistan into a new relationship.
Modi stated that this goodwill from India was not returned by Pakistan. Yet he did express a hope that someday that country would follow the path of peace. He added that the population of Pakistan was sick from living in a constant state of conflict, instability, and violence, so they craved for peace.
Modi’s Efforts for Diplomacy in Peace
Indeed, this bulk of his visit had been, as he said, achieved during his first term as prime minister regarding those measures strengthening India’s ties with Pakistan. However, he regretted that the same has not been able to give the expected results.
Here indeed a top crowned diplomatic feat is the invitation of the SAARC leaders and chief of state Pakistan’s first among equals to India. Indeed this moment in history has been aptly referred to as a watershed for India’s foreign policy pledging the country to radical regional cooperation and peace.
He added that the former Indian president Pranab Mukherjee hailed this act in his memories as a significant step for stability in South Asia. Modi said that the gesture sent out messages to the rest of the world that India is indeed committed to peace and harmony.
But unfortunately, this has always been nullified by Pakistani hostility. Reiterating terrorism along with instability as two major hurdles for normal progress towards peace, Modi said that actions from Pakistan have given a concern not just at the level of India but the level of the whole world.
Role of Pakistan in Destabilizing the Region
Modi said that because Pakistan harbors terrorist groups and allows free operation to such terrorists, again cuts deep into the very rough skin of India resulting from repeated terror strikes like that of Pathankot, Uri, and Pulwama.
There should be a seriousness from Pakistan towards terrorism for serious negotiations to take place, he said. Until then, thin trust will always remain between the two nations.
Modi appreciates the quality of leadership of Donald Trump
Besides Pakistan, Modi was also asked to express his feelings against the former US President. He went on to praise Trump’s leadership together with his categorical dedication to his nation. Modi admired Trump’s ability to brace up against the odds even in acute situations.
He gave mentions of the various attempts made to assassinate him last year. He applauded the doomed spirit and determination of this individual; even such upcoming perils would not distract Trump from his aim. Modi referred to the special connection that he holds with Trump personally and termed their relationship as a warm association based on mutual respect.
Conclusion
On the Lex Fridman podcast, PM Modi said that India has done all it can to ensure peaceful coexistence with Pakistan, which continues to answer either with betrayal or hostility.
He respected the leadership of Donald Trump and his commitment. Besides, the observations made by Modi aptly illustrated the foreign policy of India as generally disinclined toward war but hard against terrorism and aggression.
