Harpreet Babla New Mayor of Chandigarh

As per the latest news, Harpreet Babla is the new mayor of Chandigarh. This victory happened after the alleged cross-voting of three Councilors. Babla was the winning candidate by getting 19 votes and on the other side, the AAP candidate got 17 votes.

She thanked the BJP leadership after taking the Mayor’s chair. She thanks all senior officers of the Chandigarh administration and to Chandigarh MC, who conducted the election peacefully.

 

Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor

Congress candidate Jasbir Singh Bunty secured the seat of Senior Deputy Mayor. Jasbir Got 19 votes whereas his rival Bimla Dubey got 17 votes.  Just for the information this seat was reserved for women candidates. In the run-up of Polls, Congress councilor Gurbax Rawat Joined BJP and voted for the BJP candidate.

Who Is Harpreet Babla :

Harpreet Bable is the wife of BJP leader Devender Singh Babla. Both husband and wife have been active in politics for a long Time. They are blessed with two sons. Her Family resides in sector 27 Chandigarh. Before Joining the BJP Davender Babla was in Congress  Three years back they left Congress and joined the BJP.

Davender Babla and His wife both were counselors twice in the past. He served as an opposition leader and Secretary of the Market committee in the past.

 

Father is an Ex-Army:

Her father is an ex-army person who served India as a Colonel.

She has two sons. One is a lawyer by profession and the second son is taking care of the real estate business in Tricity.

 

Education:

She did her education at a convent school named a s convent of Jesus and Mary School. She did her degree in BA Hons’’

 

Relation of Davender Babla with Pawan Bansal

When Davender Babla was in Congress he was the opposition leader as well. He was very near to Pawan Bansal and MP from Congress. He joined the BJP in 2022.

It is worth saying that Harpreet Kaur Babla’s victory was possible only due to cross-voting. Because the BJP did not have a majority and had only 16 councilors. When the votes of the AAP-Congress were combined, they had 20 councilors Still, the alliance lost the election.
