On Saturday night a terrible accident took place at New Delhi Railway station which took the lives of many people and injured many others. These people were going to Prayagraj to take a holy bath at Sangam and a huge crowd was gathered on platforms 14 & 16. It is stated that more than 18 people died due to being crushed in the crowd and many got severely injured.
The main reason behind this major accident was the lack of crowd control arrangements and flaws by the railway authorities. The police and railways team are now investigating the incident and medical assistance is being offered to the injured people.
This incident has highlighted the need for safety of the general public which generally happens due to lack of safety protocols, lack of crowd management efforts and failure to set emergency protocols.

Compensation from IRCTC (Indian Railways)
Compensation from Indian Railways ( IRCTC) is given to the people who have opted for travel insurance during booking of tickets online. Under this insurance scheme, if a passenger meets an accident and dies while boarding the train then the passenger will get compensation.
If a customer has not opted for insurance during booking of train tickets in that case the compensation will not be granted. This is the way authorities ensure safety and compensation.
IRCTC offers insurance options at a very low premium of just 35 paise which gives a cover of up to 10 lakh which is applicable in case of death while travelling from train.
This cover is only valid if a passenger has opted for insurance during online ticket booking. Passengers are advised to opt for this insurance while ticket booking to have benefits of this insurance otherwise no benefits will be granted
