It appears that, after a long time, thousands of employees of the state government would be privileged with some respite. The Jammu and Kashmir administration has announced a three-percent dearness allowance increase under the Seventh Pay Commission pay scale for serving state government employees and pensioners alike.

In January 2024, the government increased the D A and D R of employees and pensioners by 4% to 50% of the base wage, which led to a 25% adjustment in the rates of the 13 essential allowances. The government has also recently changed the nursing allowance and clothing allowance for eligible employees.

In simple words, employees in other departments would get 53% of their base pay instead of getting 50%.

The arrears for the July–December 2024 period will be paid along with the February 2025 salary to employees, and in retirement, the DA will shoot up to 53 percent from the present 50 percent of pension and family pension. The change will be effective from July 1, 2024.

Santosh D. Vaidya, the Finance Department’s principal secretary, issued official directives to that effect on Monday.

The former Omar Abdullah administration approved a one-time 20 percent raise in JKRTC employees’ dearness allowance in December, which will take effect on August 1, 2024.The organization’s 1,500 permanent executives and staff will profit from this adjustment, which is the first rise in almost five years.

In accordance with the government’s directive to amend certain allowances if DA surpasses the 50% barrier, MoHFW recently announced a 25% rise in dress allowance and nursing allowance for qualified personnel.

For example, the state administration DA has been raised to 50 to 53 per cent, which is good news for workers and pensioners.

In December, JKRTC workers received good news when the erstwhile Omar Abdullah government sanctioned a one-time 20 percent increase in the dearness allowance with effect from August 1, 2024. This change will be beneficial to around 1,500 permanent officials and employees of the organization-mentioned above, thus being the first increase after almost 5 years.

From 139 percent to 159 percent in increments, the last increase was set at 17.5 percent in 2019. These types of moves have received applause from the working personnel of the company.

Satish Sharma, Minister of Transport has congratulated and commended all JKRTC working employees, urging that they can give their full promise of offering secure, affordable transport facilities to its citizens.
