TATA Harrier EV: 500-km range electric SUV threatening to take away the Indian EV market

Delhi: Tata Motors is leading the EV charge in India currently. They have six electric models in their electric four-wheeler portfolio, one of the widest in the country. However, competitors MG, and Mahindra, are also gaining pace in this segment. In retaliation, Tata is preparing to launch a new flagship vehicle, the Harrier EV.

Brought to the world first during the Auto Expo January 2025, Tata Motors has introduced the very first electric incarnation of Harrier EV new electric SUV is the first vehicle to be built upon no less than Jaguar Land Rover’s D8 platform. A range of over 500 km will render the HarrierEV perfect for long journeys. 

 

Style & Design: Another Level of Attractiveness

The Harrier EV comes with a distinctive design that makes it attractive. The car is made striking by the horizontal slats, a silver-hue bottom grille, and a shut-off top grille that comes with the body colour. Grounding its fashionable demeanor are 19-inch alloy wheels sporting two-tone elements and cutting-edge “EV” badging on the front door.

There is little that could compete with Harrier EV inside. It comes with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It further boasts luxury accessories such as mood lighting, driver-side memory and ventilated front seats.

 

Stealth Edition: Dark and Matic

A stealth version of Harrier EV might be offered by Tata Motors. This variant will feature 19-inch alloy wheels, granite black seat covers, and matte black paint. This version is for customers looking to give their car a different and aggressive look. 

 

Technological Features and Performance

This Harrier EV will have an AWD due to the electric motors at both ends. This configuration will provide a powerful and nice driving performance with 500 Nm of torque. The company is to use a 75 kWh battery pack with a range of over 500 kilometers. The Harrier EV will also support bi-directional charging capabilities between vehicles (V2L and V2V). Through this feature, customers can charge their cars to other devices or vehicles.

 

Cost and Availability

The Harrier EV is expected to be priced at around Rs 23 lakh ex-showroom. It is expected to make its way to the market by March 2025.
