In a Historic move, Uttarakhand became the first state to impose a Uniform Civil Code(UCC). This progressive move marks a significant step towards ensuring equality and justice for all the residents of the state. CM Pushkar Singh launched a new portal for UCC and issued an official statement for its adoption across the state today. This historic decision indicated the UK’s commitment to safeguarding the rights of individuals.
CM stated that Uniform civil code is a constitutional measure to eradicate discrimination and ensure equal rights and opportunity for each citizen.
What is Uniform civil code?
It is a proposal to formulate personal laws for citizen irrespective of their caste religion and other key points of discrimination. As per the act, the UK will govern and improve the laws related to marriage divorce, Succession and live-in relationship-related matters. It also bans polygamy, Halala,, and sets equal age for man and woman to marry.
A Landmark Step Towards Equality
As the Uniform civil code allows to over rule various discrimination of society and bans various dysfunctional aspects of society it is called as Act for Equality. It will address major social challenges including issues halala, polygamy, live in relations, child marriage, and triple talaq. These activities leads to gender equality which will be dealt by this law. By this UK became first to adopt UCC and encouraged other states to follow the same.
CM make sure that article 342 will remain excluded. Article 342 addresses rights of Scheduled tribes. This decision has been praised and considered thoughtful.
Women’s Empowerment at the Core
UCC aims to bridge the gap by enhancing the approach of providing equal opportunity to women by equalising age of marriage. Rules like Triple talaq, Polygamy and live in relationship are more benefitting to women enforcing Women empowerment.

The government addresses potential concerns that will come in way of implementation and ensure that the code reflects the true values of justice and equality while ensuring the diversity of the state’s citizens.
Citizens can access all the information about the UCC, can provide their valuable feedback, and can raise individuals concerns through the portal , ensuring that the overall implementation will be inclusive and accountable.
Public Response
UCC’s implementation in UK has been provided by mixed reactions from the public. Women’s right protection sanghs and reformers have largely applauded the move, addressing it as a step towards equality and justice. They believe that the UCC will help dismantle patriarchal norms and empower women to assert their rights.
Alternatively, some leaders have expressed oppositions and apprehensions about the potential impact of the UCC on the traditions and impact culture preservations. The government’s assured that the code is not against any specific group has been an important step in addressing these concerns.
