29 January 2025, UP CM Yogi Adityanath, released his first statement after the Mahakumbh Stampede of last night Prayagraj. He appealed to devotees not to pay attention to any False alarms and suggests to take bath wherever they are. Do not try to go deep towards Triveni ghat as all ghats are equally sacred even the temporary ghats not only those of Sangam Nose, Vasuki marg and Akhara marg. It’s not necessary to take a bath at a particular time. At Prayagraj, Mahakumbh right now there is a huge crowd of crores but the management system is on duty. So it’s a mutual effort and cooperation to make the Shahi Snan successful. PM Modi also showed deep concerns and spoke to Yogi over the security and management measures and implied additional support to handle the large influx of people.
Stampede at Mahakumbh
Today, was one of the major shahi sanan out of 6 due to Mauni amavsya and the gathering was approx. more than crores. At around 1 am in the morning as everybody wants to take a dip in sangam and Stampede situation arises. It is feared that 10 deaths and multiple casualties have been reported.
According to the sources in the early hours a large number of pilgrims gathered for a holy dip due to Mauni amavsya.

Around 2 am as the bulk crowd converged at sangam and other ghats of sangam constituting a 12 km long river bank, the management came into action after the stampede-like situation occurred and Police and Ambulance sirens were audible along with the religious chants of mantra at Mahakumbh Stampede site. As per the reports, some people have been hospitalized after injuries happened due to broken barriers at sangam. Some officials are claiming the Barricade system was not very efficient to handle such a mass gathering. Choke points created for diversions were not effectively used. The crowd was too intense to handle the Police team was not enough.

However, the advisories were issued the day before as the influx of crowd was too intense. Guidelines suggested safety measures for crowd management but handling the large crowd simply became impossible at some point of time. Some dead bodies have been identified.
PM Modi calls CM Yogi over Mahakumbh Stampede
PM Modi urged UP CM Yogi Aditya Nath to take command of the situation and called for immediate support actions to make the situation back to normal. Akharas after seeing the serious issue called off Amrit sanan even a large number of ordinary devotees took a dip. After the three sects Sanyasi Bairagi and Udaseen took a dip.
